Peclers Paris – Spring Summer 2014

The austerity imposed by the crisis has generated a current of pragmatism, even sobriety, which has had a strong influence, on the past two seasons. The crisis continues, but the creative and imaginative energy it had obstinately channeled is bursting at the seams and shattering the call for moderation. New dynamics are needed, both to cope with the current situation and to find solutions to escape it: they are leading to and inspiring new aesthetics, which are either volatile and unexpected (PSYCHE, EXPLOSIVE) or discreetly singular (SUBLIMED, INTERSECTIONS).

Sushi Kart by Lorenza Bozzoli at London Design Festival 2014

Colé Sushi Kart exhibit at Mint Shop, founded in 1998, that is a reliable source for high-end home furnishings and accessories that may not be within everyone's budget, but certainly at the top of any design enthusiast's wish list. The shop's cutting-edge inventory—which often includes items seen only on display at Milan Design Week just months before—had no shortage of covetable wares, but we fell hard for a Lorenza Bozzoli's elegant "Sushi Kart" for the young Italian label Colé, as well as for Edinburgh-based designer Wael Seaiby's colorful PLAG vessels, which are upcycled from plastic shopping bags (a material called HDPE).

Best of Milan Design Week 2013 – TRIA Chair

Although the most important annual event on the world design calendar recently closed its doors, the electric buzz it’s left behind can still be felt in the air. Having said that, it could just be me and my ongoing jet-lag! I encountered a fair amount of criticism at this year’s Milan Design Week, largely due to everyone’s continued frustration at the sheer volume of things to see and places to visit. So without further ado, it has been an absolute privilege to collaborate with Mr. Yatzer, aka Costas Voyatzis who trusted and gave me the honour of becoming his eyes and ears for this year’s Italian design marathon. So here’s our hand-picked selection of the best projects and installations from Milan Design Week 2013.
